GM Place Sound Upgrade:

Vancouver, B.C. (Oct.23.2008) - Canucks Sports & Entertainment announced today the completion a multimillion dollar enhancement to Vancouver’s General Motors Place featuring the replacement of the existing speakers and sound system infrastructure with state-of-the-art components primarily manufactured by L-Acoustics. Home of the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League, General Motors Place is one of the most active sports and entertainment venues in North America.

“Canucks Sports & Entertainment is extremely pleased to announce improvements to our sound system at General Motors for the 2008-09 NHL season,” said Harvey Jones, Vice President & General Manager, Arena Operations, Canucks Sports & Entertainment. “We have installed an integrated system highlighted by the L-Acoustics speakers that will help ensure our fans receive the ultimate audio quality to enhance their sports and entertainment experience.”

The new sound system was installed by Rocky Mountain Production Services and features improvements to the main speakers, intercom, wireless and sound system infrastructures at General Motors Place. The main speakers consist of six line source arrays suspended over the ice, with 360°coverage from seats behind the glass to the Level 500 suites. The design allows an audio technician to vary sound levels according to the particular needs of the building. Geometrically centered between each speaker array is two separate subwoofer arrays, each consisting of eight SB28s. Upgrades to the centre hung scoreboard include the addition of six ARCS speakers to improve on-ice coverage. The entire system is driven by 23 LA8 amplifiers on a redundant fibre network.
